Making Peace With Loss

Honoring Grief for Healing & Resilience

Rhinebeck, NY

Program Tuition

Find compassionate ways to cope with grief with bereavement experts Dr. Terri Daniel, Dr. Donna Holland Barnes, and Heather Stang.

Heather Stang says cultivating self-care for grief can help you tend to the real pain of loss.

Note: Donna Holland Barnes will participate via livestream.

In the wake of COVID-19, millions of us are experiencing loss—whether it is the loss of a loved one, a job, or a way of life. We’re also experiencing the grief that comes along with those losses. Grief is one of the most universal human experiences, and many of us are experiencing it right now.

Whether you or someone you love is going through a painful experience of grief, there is solidarity and support to be gained from people who have firsthand experience with the challenges you are facing.

Join Dr. Terri Daniel, author of Grief and God, Dr. Donna Holland Barnes, author of The Truth About Suicide, and Heather Stang, author of Mindfulness & Grief, for a special weekend where you discover how to tend to the pain of your loss. You’ll learn how to give yourself time and space to mourn, so that you can care for your grieving body, integrate the reality of what happened, pick up the pieces, and re-engage with life in a healthy, meaningful way.

While there is no single right way to navigate grief and loss, addressing the physical effects can be a good starting place. As you experience a grief-sensitive approach to mindfulness and yoga, you begin to release pent-up trauma, feel like yourself again, and get the sleep you need to process grief’s most challenging emotions.

Within a supportive community, you’ll gain valuable tools to understand and honor your loss and find a sense of meaning, so that you can begin to heal.

Dr. Terri Daniel demonstrates a process she teaches in her Spirituality and Bereavement class.

9:00 a.m.–Noon
Grief as a Mystical Journey
With Dr. Terri Daniel

Gain healing tools not found in traditional counseling or support group settings, with processes such as heart-healing ceremonies, multicultural practices and cosmologies related to loss, art therapy, and family dynamic mapping. These processes help you focus on internal transformation rather than external events, and move the “stuck” energy of grief out of your body.

Please bring a sacred object that represents your grief journey such as a personal photo or memento.

2:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m.
Surviving Loss Using Restorative Telling
With Dr. Donna Holland Barnes
 (via livestream)
Everyone has a need to tell "their story" over and over again. What were the circumstances of the death? Where did it leave you emotionally, spiritually, physically, and socially? Retelling the story as restorative telling is a natural way to dissipate the psychic energy created by the trauma and to integrate the reality of what happened.
